What happens when your site gets on the homepage of Digg.com?

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

Yesterday I experienced quite the experience. One of the pages on my site hit the front page of digg.com. Can I tell you how awesome this was. Within minutes the web server I hosted sent me this message:

Hello,

We had to suspend the account with morrise.com due to high CPU and RAM
usage.
Currently the web site is using about 21.41% of RAM and 16% of CPU
Our limits are 10% of each resource.
Unfortunately we can’t afford to host so large account on a shared
server it
affects other accounts.
I strongly recommend you to consider upgrade to a dedicated or VPS
server or
limit your downloads.

More information for a VPS or dedicated servers you can find on the
following pages:

I will freely admit that the hosting that I have for my website is less than “Enterprise” level. It’s about 7 bucks a month. The website came down after being on digg.com’s homepage for only about an hour. It’s amazing the kind of views that thing gets. After several hours of having my page pounded without people being able to get on, I emailed my hosting provider asking them to enable my account again. Here was the response:

Hello Benjamin,

I’ve unsuspended your account to allow you to get it fixed. Please
note, we’ll be forced to terminate it if the problem remains in the future
Thank you.
Eugene

I was actually quite curious as to the amount of visits that I received to this site because it sounded like a ton. This morning when I logged on to my Google Analytics account I got a great surprise: almost 9000 unique visitors for yesterday. That’s pretty awesome considering the site was only “up” for a few hours. Here’s what the page looked like:

It’s now “The Play”

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

The current episode will now be called “The Play.” I made this decision because it focuses more on “The Play” than anything else. We’re coming on pretty well with the current script. In fact, I will upload what we currently have for your enjoyment. We would love some critical feedback, so feel free to give it.

Here it is: Episode 1 - The Play

The throw-away episode

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

Well, we’ve created a throw-away episode. What is a throw-away episode? A throw-away episode is one that is created in the attempt to generate ideas, but is never intended to be filmed. The reason is that generally it is created in order to set things up.

In this episode, the guys are actually seen meeting each other for the first time. This will never actually happen in the real show. The intent was for us to see how they met, funny or not. This episode didn’t turn out very funny, thus it will not be produced.

You’ll also notice that the length of this episode is quite short. There was no need to create a real plot.

In short, a throw-away episode is something that I made up.

What’s the premise?

Friday, January 12th, 2007

Well, we have a premise. Here it is:

Four freshman college student males live in a house. Quinn, the owner of the house, is a stereotypical nerd. His parents have purchased the house for him to live in. Quinn has asked his best friend Deacon to be one of his roommates.

Deacon is nerdy, but not so much as Quinn. He is the type of person who had lady admirers in high school, but because of his own insecurity and lack of self confidence, never really knew.

Quinn’s parents, in an attempt to enhance his college experience, have “hired” two other roommates to live with Quinn. They tricked Quinn into thinking that not only are they paying rent, but they made him think that he was responsible for finding them. The two guys were hired to “show Quinn a good time” while in college.

Taylor and Kenny have been friends since high school. Taylor is an attractive, smart, and charming young fellow, while Kenny is simply a “party animal.” They are very popular with members of the opposite gender and know how to have a good time. Quinn, however, believing that he has full control over the house, has made some rules that conflict with their plot to show Quinn a good time.

Normally, any college student faced with such rules would promptly get out of this kind of housing situation, but with free rent and food, it’s too good of a deal to pass up.

Stay tuned for the first script.
