Forget hair gel, I’m taking a nap.
Saturday, February 16th, 2008I’ve noticed something several times in my life, but only recently have I started thinking about it more seriously. I have stubborn hair. I can’t really get it to do what I want and I have to use mounds of gel to get it to do anything. What is amazing to me though is the effect that sleeping on my hair has.
When I wake up in the morning my hair, as is most people’s, looks nothing short of awesome. I usually have some sort of wing sticking out of these side of my head. The thing I’ve noticed is how seemingly plastered in that state my hair is.
Last night after I went running, I decided to take a shower. This morning when woke up I remembered that I’d taken a shower last night and since it’s Saturday, I figured I didn’t need to take another one. I tried to do my hair. I had obviously been sleeping on my left side, judging by the sticky-outiness of the hair on that side. I took a handful of gel and ran it through that area of hair. It probably held it down for 5 minutes trying to get it to stay, with no luck.
Finally, I ended up running my hair under the faucet for a few minutes to wet it down. That did the trick.
Anyway, to end up this post, I want to suggest a new product that someone should create. What I need is a gel that has magnetically charged particles in it so that after I apply it to my hair I can simple press a button and have the particles be magnetically shaped to whatever hairstyle I want.
Calculus Hero
Friday, February 8th, 2008It seems the Guitar Hero is all the craze right now with the high school and college types. I’ve never actually played it myself because I would rather play the real guitar, but I’m not against it.
I think that if the video game companies wanted to improve the general intelligence of the world population they would make a new game: Calculus Hero.
They could teach the high school students how to quickly take the derivative of 2x2+2x+1. Kids would be able to whip out integrals like nobody’s business.
Of course, there is always the possibility that we could create an army of super geniuses that would take over to world…okay, this might not be such a good idea.
How much for example.com?
Tuesday, February 5th, 2008Of the few web domains that aren’t registerable(word?), I think example.com would be one I’d like to own. Example.com is used strictly for documentation and can’t be registered. My wonder is how much the domain name would go for if they ever auctioned it off. Probably a lot.
More fun with Adobe Flash
Tuesday, February 5th, 2008I’ve been having a little fun with Flash lately and some trigonometric functions. Yesterday I built this, probably useless but fun anyway, flash menu thing. The functionality is weird, but when you view the page try clicking on the bubbles and using the up and down keys. It’s quite fun. Anyway, enjoy…

Pretending to be Sylar
Saturday, February 2nd, 2008Because I enjoy the T.V. show “Heroes” so much and also because it doesn’t look like it will be back on the air any time soon, I have decided to pretend to be Sylar. Now, I’m not pretending to be him in real life, but by means of Twitter. If you’d like to follow along with my adventures of being Sylar, you can view it here: http://twitter.com/gabrielgray.

I should get up early more often
Tuesday, January 15th, 2008This morning I woke up at 5 to study. I didn’t have a test or anything, but I figured that it was the best time to study because there is no distractions. I found this to be one of the best study sessions I’ve had in awhile and I found it really productive. On top of that I always feel like I get more out of my day when I wake up early and do something than when I sleep in. I’m more of a morning thinker than a night thinker. When I study for tests I always wake up early.
Presidential candidates and the metric system
Saturday, January 5th, 2008I’ve been taking some physics classes at school and we pretty much always use the metric system. Now, I’m a big fan of the metric system. It makes sense to me. It counts in 10s instead of in whatevers like they crazy system we use here does. Water boils at 100 degrees and freezes at 0 degrees. I mean, what is this 212 and 32 anyway? This lead me to start thinking about what it would take to change the US over to the metrics system. Most scientific studies already use the metric system so those wouldn’t have to change much. It would be quite an undertaking to change all the street signs, but if we did it in phases it wouldn’t be so bad. I honestly think that the hardest thing about changing to the metric system completely would be changing heights and lengths of various sporting things. I could hear the school kids now, “Hey, can you dunk on a 3.048 meter rim?” or “That was a 91.44 meter touchdown run.” Okay, so those are direct conversions to the metric system from the British system, but would we really want to change the height of a rim .048 meters or add 8.56 meters to a football field to even them out. I guess that wouldn’t be so bad for football, but saying that you could dunk a 3 meter rim just doesn’t have the same effect. I’m willing to make the change, but I don’t know if others are. Since the title of this post has the words “presidential candidates” in it, I have just this to say: If a presidential candidate proposed that we change completely over to the metric system, I would vote for him/her.
Have you ever played Tetris in your head?
Wednesday, November 28th, 2007Of all the video game playing that I’ve ever done, I think some of the most interesting games I have ever played are those that I play in my head. I have two favorites: Super Mario Bros. 3 and Tetris. I’m quite good at Super Mario Bros. 3 in real-life, but I’m also good when I play in my head. It’s more difficult that you’d think, but actually quite enjoyable. The game plays at about the same speed and the physics are pretty similar. I even find myself dying every now and again. The trick to playing Super Mario Bros. 3 in your head is that you have to have the entire game memorized. Well, in my case I only need Worlds 1 and 8 memorized because I usually warp to the 8th level after getting the second warp whistle in the first castle in World 1. Tetris is another story. It is a much simpler game that Mario, but it is more difficult to play in you head than you’d think. The reason for this is that when your mind is trying to pick the next piece, it often gets stuck and you end up getting the same piece over and over again. That is sometimes beneficial when you only get the 2×2 block or the 4×1 block, but the t-pieces or the bendy-arm pieces over and over again can be deadly. It’s hard to stack a bunch of those together. So, the next time your sitting in the car, bus, or trying to fall asleep, play video games in your head.
