It seems the Guitar Hero is all the craze right now with the high school and college types. I’ve never actually played it myself because I would rather play the real guitar, but I’m not against it.
I think that if the video game companies wanted to improve the general intelligence of the world population they would make a new game: Calculus Hero.
They could teach the high school students how to quickly take the derivative of 2x2+2x+1. Kids would be able to whip out integrals like nobody’s business.
Of course, there is always the possibility that we could create an army of super geniuses that would take over to world…okay, this might not be such a good idea.
Of all the video game playing that I’ve ever done, I think some of the most interesting games I have ever played are those that I play in my head. I have two favorites: Super Mario Bros. 3 and Tetris. I’m quite good at Super Mario Bros. 3 in real-life, but I’m also good when I play in my head. It’s more difficult that you’d think, but actually quite enjoyable. The game plays at about the same speed and the physics are pretty similar. I even find myself dying every now and again. The trick to playing Super Mario Bros. 3 in your head is that you have to have the entire game memorized. Well, in my case I only need Worlds 1 and 8 memorized because I usually warp to the 8th level after getting the second warp whistle in the first castle in World 1. Tetris is another story. It is a much simpler game that Mario, but it is more difficult to play in you head than you’d think. The reason for this is that when your mind is trying to pick the next piece, it often gets stuck and you end up getting the same piece over and over again. That is sometimes beneficial when you only get the 2×2 block or the 4×1 block, but the t-pieces or the bendy-arm pieces over and over again can be deadly. It’s hard to stack a bunch of those together. So, the next time your sitting in the car, bus, or trying to fall asleep, play video games in your head.
I was sitting here alone at the house thinking about what I would do with 2.16 million dollars. First of all, I would probably go on a vacation with my family. I don’t think I would really care where it was as long as it was not in Utah and it was warm. Second, I would probably pay off my house. I would be nice to be debt free. Then, I would then drive my car off of the highest cliff I could find. I’d probably jump out moments before, film it, and put it up on YouTube. I really don’t care for my car and wish it would blow up. Next, there are a few websites that I would like to have built. I would probably choose the best idea out of the lot and outsource it. Next, I would probably make a movie. I’ve wanted to make a movie for some time now. I’m not even sure why, but I think it would be really fun. Then, I would probably rent 20 movies, buy one of each kind of candy bar at the local grocery store, and spend the next several days watching the movies and eating the candy bars. I would definitely have a piece of paper next to me so that I could write down my favorite candy bars and movies so that I would know what to watch and eat the next time I stumbled upon another 2.16 million dollars.
As technology continues to evolve, I find myself being greedy and wanting technology that doesn’t exist. Here is what I would have:
First, I would have an extremely fast central computer system that was running in my home. It would be the central hub of my system. It would have the ability to run all your standard desktop applications as well as all multimedia applications. Connected to it would be a HD projector for visual display and a 7.1 surround sound system for audio. Hence, it would also double as my personal theater. Along with this central computer, I would require a service that would let me download HD audio and video content at extremely high speeds so that playback was instantaneous. This content would have to include any and all major films, music albums, etc.
Second, I would have a handheld device. It would have all the current technologies, phone, media player, GPS and soforth. This device would have a large screen with touch controls and would directly interface with my central system wirelessly. The device would be able to stream the audio and video from the main system at extremely high speeds so that I would have complete access to any of my content at anytime. Furthermore, this device would automatically detect whether I was at home, work, or in the car and be able to wirelessly interface with various speaker systems that I have set up in those areas.
Almost all this technology currently exists, it just hasn’t been put together in this fashion. This is what I would like and hope that it becomes available to me some day.
I have created an interesting way to sell ad space for a website. Here’s how it works:
Each week I post an eBay auction for the ad space. When the end of the week occurs, the winner of the eBay auction gets the ad space. Then, I post another eBay auction. At the end of that auction, the winner of it gets the ad space and so on. So, the auctions are for a weeks worth of ad space. That way, people can pay as little or as much as they want for the ad space. Pretty cool huh.
This is the first episode of the Morrise.com Podcast.
I’m pretty sure that this blog could be classified as a failing blog, probably because I’ve been at it since January and don’t have a single subscriber that I’m aware of. I guess that’s the way it goes. I think the main problem with my blog is that there is no standard topic or continuity. It’s just a bunch of random thoughts and ideas. Well, here’s my thought for the day: why blogs fail.
So you see, there are many reasons why blogs fail. I have outline several of those reasons. They are good reasons. I will continue this blog forever. That is how it will be.
Andy an I have been working on a project for some time now. We have hired a programmer to complete some of the work and are really excited about. What is it? Well that I can’t tell you, at least not yet. We’re waiting until it gets completely finished before we let anything out of the bag. So, stick around to see what is developing. We should have something up by the end of the week.
A little while back after the site going down due to the Digg effect, we were required to get some new hosting. The company where we currently host is called Midphase. The hosting option we decided to switch to is something called a VPS or Virtual Private Server. In the setup of this server the name servers that this website runs off were change from midphase.com name servers to morrise.com name servers. After waiting for almost a day for the propagation of the DNS servers, the website was still pointing to midphase.com name servers. How did I know this? A little tool at dnsstuff.com. It was very useful in helping me debug name server issues and DNS issues.
