World’s Largest Lego Set

taj-mahal

If you’re like me, you often wonder, sometimes even aloud, what is the largest Lego set ever sold by the Denmark-based company? The answer used to be the 5,195-piece Millennium Falcon, truly a trophy and a status symbol among nerds. But last year, Lego started to distribute the new pinnacle of Lego buildings, the 5,922-piece Taj Mahal.

Needless to say, I want one. And I don’t even know why.

A Cell for Everyone and Everyone for a Cell

cell-phone-1

For a gadet guy like me, the iPhone exemplifies the kinds of things I look for in a phone. But what if you’re a chef, lawyer, hermit or gamer? What kind of a phone do you look for? The chef gets the Motorola Cleaver, the lawyer gets a BlackBerry, the hermit gets no phone and the gamer gets this one.

Cellphones aimed specifically at gamers is an emerging market, and has been wide open ever since Sony decided not to release a PSP phone.

This guy even appears to fold up small enough not to be a pocket nuisance when games aren’t being played.

Market Splash Free Business Cards

business-card

Market Splash has the best online business card creator in the world and is the only company out there that gives away truly free business cards, and you still aren’t using them.

Their creation environment is like having an adobe product without having to pay for it and when I say the cards are truly free, I mean you don’t even have to pay for shipping. They are one of the two companies in the world that allows users to upload vectorized images, without flattening them or changing them in any way, for use on customized business cards. They produce the cards with their logo on the back and you pay nothing.

Don’t you feel terrible. Don’t you feel remorse for what you have done. Well, that’s all I’m going to say about poor Market Splash.

Vista Print is terrible.

Bloopers?

The following is content from an old post I thought I would resurrect. If you’ve seen it before, just ignore it.

I found this classic package of briefs as I was cleaning out my grandparents basement and I thought I would share. I have no Idea where they came from, but my grandpa always finds things that are cheap and buys in bulk: (more…)

New Asus Eee: Mac Air Rivals Everywhere

asus-eee-pc

So the new Asus Eee PC looks like a MacBook Air. Big deal. Actually I think this is an exciting development even though I know the specs will be nothing compared to Apple’s xtra-thin laptop. I figure since most netbooks have no optical drive, a weak processor and generally poor performance for anything that isn’t basic computing and surfing the web, they should always have been this thin. Unfortunately, most of them are fat little guys who mock you by looking like a computer but not really performing like one.

One “Step” Closer to the Holodeck

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

I know that lots of people have thought through what technologies would have to be employed in order for Star Trek’s Holodeck to exist. In my longing for the Holodeck to become reality, I was always dismayed by the fact that even if we could get holograms to look like real life, moving inside a confined space would be nearly impossible. But now Circulafloor has given me hope for a better future.

MacBook Air Competition

I am always excited by serious competitors to the MacBook Air. The X-Slim X340 PC laptop is a viable (and significantly cheaper) option from MSI. This little notebook doesn’t quite pack the same punch as the Apple alterantive, but with its 1.6Ghz intel processor, 160GB hard drive, 2GB DDR2 RAM and, most importantly, $800 price tag, it is a contender.

More Powerful Pico Projectors on Their Way

pico-projector

Pico projectors have been a pet technology of mine since they were pushed into the public spotlight at last year’s CES. Since then I have seen some dismaying videos showing pico projectors in use and their not-so-spectacular performance. I still have more than high hopes for this technology, and a little company called Beambox is improving the technology.

It used to be that these little units only had a 9 lumen brightness and around 50:1 contrast ratio. Not very impressive when you consider that my low-end projector has a 2000 lumen brightness and a 600:1 contrast ratio. But this little unit from Beambox boasts a 30 lumen brightness and a 200:1 contrast ratio as well as 4GB build in storage and a micro SD slot. As a tailor once said while fitting me for a suit, “Pretty beefy for a little guy.” For the record, I have no idea what he meant (possibly a fat joke?).

My point is that, even though this particular model is ugly as sin, Beambox is on the right track, no? These small projectors remain nothing but a dream and one entry on an ever expanding wish list for me, but hopefully, by the time I can afford one, they will be even more astounding and this sentence will be even longer.

The Wii is Finally a Normal Product

Today, for the first time, I found Nintendo Wii’s on the shelf at Walmart. I have no idea how to impress the awesomeness of that statement on you. You can walk into a store and buy a Wii. Dang.
