If it was responding, then I’d be worried

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

This post is for all you windows users out there. I use a Windows machine at work, and I am often amazed by the nuances of the Windows operating system and its accompanying Microsoft applications. One thing that I have come to realize (and this has seriously improved the Windows user experience for me) is that, as I wait for my application to load, save, refresh, or any number of things, it is actually a good sign if Window registers that the application is Not Responding. Thus far in my experience, it is only when the application is responding that their is any danger that your system is frozen. While Not Responding typically means, just a second, I’ll be right with you.

“Heroes”

Heroes

I don’t watch a ton of T.V. and I almost never watch shows as they are being released. I usually borrow the seasons from somebody who has purchased the DVDs. This is how I’m experienced shows like Seinfeld, The Office, and Arrested Development. A couple of months ago I “borrowed” my younger brother’s laptop. I discovered that among the many files on the computer were the first 11 episodes of the NBC series “Heroes.” I had remembered seeing a trailer for the show before a movie that my wife and I had seen and thought that it looked interesting. Anyway, we started to watch the episodes and we couldn’t stop. Over the next couple of days we stayed up extremely late watching all the episodes. The show was intriguing to me for so many reasons. They do a great job at making you want to know what’s coming next. The next season is starting this Monday and I’m really excited to see how it goes.

Being sick.

Friday, September 21st, 2007

Thursday night I started to feel a little bit sick. I probably only slept for an hour or so that night. I thought I must have cold. I went to school the next morning and could barely sit up. Still not know what was wrong with me, I came home and took my temperature. It was around 102 degrees. I laid in bed most of the day and tried to work, but it was tough. They my throat started hurting a lot. It was hard to eat because each swallow was like swallowing something hurty. As I lay in bed that night the thought occurred to me that I probably had strep throat. I told my wife this, knowing that she probably thought that I just had a cold and was just being a baby. Anyway, today I went to the doctor and got my throat swabbed. Sure enough, I’ve got strep throat. Then the nurse practitioner gave me some options. He said I could either get a shot of penicillin or take it orally for the next few weeks. I of course decided to take the shot. Last time I had strep throat the nurse was really nice and gave me the shot slowly over the span of about a minute. Not this guy. He pushed that syringe empty in about 5 seconds. It’s like having peanut butter injected into you. Yes, and it’s in your rear. It was a little hard to walk afterwards and felt quite <sarcasm>wonderful</sarcasm>. Anyway, It’s about 8:40 and I’m feeling quite a bit better now. Still hurts a little to swallow, but I don’t feel as loopy.

I want to try my hand at acting

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

Okay, I know this is strange coming from me, but I would really like to try my hand at acting. Preferably, I would like some kind of one show appearance on a T.V. Show, probably a comedy. I don’t consider myself to be any kind of actor, because I’m not, but I think it would be fun to try and with the directors these days, they can help anyone act at least a little bit.

A new website in the wings.

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

Andy an I have been working on a project for some time now. We have hired a programmer to complete some of the work and are really excited about. What is it? Well that I can’t tell you, at least not yet. We’re waiting until it gets completely finished before we let anything out of the bag. So, stick around to see what is developing. We should have something up by the end of the week.

New Macbook Pro for me!

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

Well, I thought this day would never come. Since the creation of the Macbook Pro I have wanted on. Well, that day is here. The wonderful company that I work for was wonderful enough to buy me one. I can’t tell you how happy I am about it. Until now I was using my younger brother’s year old Windows computer for all my mobile computing. Now, I’m working on a 15″ Macbook Pro. It’s quite the sweet little machine. From the sleek design, to theĀ  back-lit keys, the integrated web cam, and everything in between. It’s great. I was a Mac hater for a long time, but my iMac and now this Macbook Pro are my favorite computers I have ever had. So, if you are considering buying a new computer, I strongly suggest a Mac.

Lovin’ the new iPods

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

Well, Apple came out with new iPods this week. They’ve refreshed their entire lineup. Well, Steve Jobs said they refreshed the iPod shuffle, but frankly they just changed the colors. Not a big refresh. The iPod Nano however looks completely different. It has an brand new shaped and a new UI. I think it’s my favorite. Mostly because I don’t have a huge music library and I don’t do a lot of bus-type commuting. I would like to have a couple of T.V. shows in my pocket at any given time and the new iPod Nano would hit the spot. The next generation of iPod has been named the “iPod classic.” It also sports the new iPod UI and has the following capacities: 80GB and 160GB. This is a nice player, but lacks a large enough screen to reasonably watch a long movie. The last and final iPod is the iPod Touch. It’s basically an iPhone without the phone. I don’t know how big of a hit it will be given that it only has a 100 dollar price difference from the iPhone. I suppose there are a lot of people who don’t want to pay the cell phone bill and that is probably would drive them to buy the iPod Touch. The unfortunate part about the iPod Touch is the smallish capacities: 8GB and 16GB. This isn’t a lot when considering the best feature of the iPod Touch is the brilliantly large and beautiful screen. It makes it hard to pack around a good movie collection with only 8 or 16GB. My ideal would be an iPod Touch with a 160GB hard drive and 50 hours of battery life for video.
