Why do Digg users Digg what they Digg?

Wow, that was a lot of Digg. I’ve been a Digg user for a little under a month now. My experience with Digg has been a lukewarm. I found out quickly that it was a bad idea to have almost the same username as my brother (his username is amorrise and mine was bmorrise). We got people complaining all the time that we were the same person Digging the same posts, just to get the Digg count up. I’m here to tell you that that is false. We are two different people Digging the same posts to get the Digg count up. Anyway, after changing my username to emot1con, I haven’t gotten any more complaints. In fact, I think my ability to get my stories Dugg has gone up!On to the question at hand. Why do I Digg what I Digg? I’m the type of person who will glance only at the first few posts on the front page. I’ll usually read a few of them and give them Diggs. I also like to look at the stories that are on the right-hand sidebar. Those are usually pretty interesting given that they have the most Diggs. After that, I’ll usually check out what my friends are Digging. They usually get Diggs from me as well. It’s kind of the luck of the draw who of my friends get my Diggs. I usually won’t go past the front page.

If somebody adds me as a friend to their friend list, I will almost always read their latest stories that they have Dugg and give them Diggs if I find them interesting. So, if anyone wants Diggs from me, add me as a friend. That’ll be your best bet. As of this post I have 14 mutual friends. I have about 52 friends, but that is only one-sided, so they don’t really count. Speaking of which, I think Digg needs to make a way that I can press a button and have all of my non-mutual friends removed.

The last way I chose who I want to Digg is to search through the “Upcoming Stories”. I’ll usually look at the last few submitted posts and Digg what is interesting. Then I will sort by various things. Usually I’ll look at the most popular up and coming stories as well as the ones that have the most comments. I find it fun to get in on the comments as well.

So, it’s your turn now. Leave a comment and tell briefly why you Digg what you Digg.
